Music & Community
Dale’s Friday Coffee House, presented by The Bank Theatre, takes place at The Bank Theatre in Leamington, Ontario on a monthly basis from September through May. There is a definite air of community spirit and a loyal audience who return faithfully month after month to enjoy music performed by local, and not so local, performers. Hugs abound, music fills the air as new songs emerge, and the audience cheers in support.
Always a delightful evening of music and community.
Performers are given time to play three songs each, and performances vary from a full band to a duo/trio or solo performer, in a whole range of genres. There is always something to please everyone.
The Friday, May 20th, 2016 line-up featured: Dale Butler & Gord Harwood, John Paterson, Karen Morand, Robert Stark, Paul Jones, Martha Renaud, Marty Lowman and South West Sound – the Quiring Brothers Band. The evening ended with Dale, wife Judy and friends performing. The Bank Theatre volunteers were in attendance and sound by John Moran.
When I asked Dale the best part of what he does with the series he said, “Oh the BEST is sharing the stage with everyone!” Butler’s love of encouraging new and emerging musicians, supporting new CD projects and giving performers a stage to showcase on is contagious.
There is no cover charge for the evening of great local music. Instead, each month a charity funding by way of “passing the hat” benefits a chosen cause. A suggested donation is $5-$10 dollars a person. A portion of the proceeds goes to The Bank Theatre for renovations and the sound system fund. This particular evening donations went to “Magoo” Instruments for the North and for the Red Cross – Fort McMurray Fire Fund.

Earlier this year, Judy and I took the train from Toronto out to British Columbia. I was fortunate to be part of what Via Rail call their Artists on Board Program. The goal of the Artists on Board Program is simple – musicians get to travel across Canada by train using music to pay their fare. What a great idea. Thanks Via!
The secret is out and we’ve got even more secrets coming! NEXT FRIDAY – Sept. 21st, 2018 – The Bank Theatre will re-open its doors for Dale’s Friday Coffee House. Everyone knows how much I love this community and we’re so proud to call The Bank Theatre home. The best part of all of this will be that on September 21st, I’m not only sharing the stage with these wonderful performers, but also with all of you!
